The Ubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Ubuntu 6.10, codenamed Edgy Eft!
Edgy includes some cool new stuff, including:
Finally got round to building and setting up my Ubuntu box. Took me about 3 hours to have everything ready after replacing the power supply, installing Ubuntu 6.06 and upgrading it to 6.06.1. I am currently using a crappy 15" inch CRT monitor with it, so that will probably be the next thing I upgrade.
With AMD having reduced the prices on their processors, I thought I'd treat myself to a few new components. I could have gone the way of the Conroe chips as they are seriously kicking butt in the benchmarks department, but I decided to stick with AMD due to my limited budget.
These are the things that I got:
- A Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 motherboard
- A Zalman CNPS9500 AM2
- An AM2 X2 4400+ CPU
- A Seagate 300GB SATA harddrive
- 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-667 memory chips (had to go a bit low on this one, the DDR2-800 was a bit too steep in price for me)
- 2 x 7600 GS SLI video cards (again budget issues)
Ever since AJAX burst in the web design world, developers have been scrambling to determine the best framework to use when developing their sites. I won’t be the only one to say that there are a huge number of frameworks available. Being a web designer using Dreamweaver, a lot has been cut down on development time and not having such a technology at hand was a bit disappointing.
Ubuntu, which has become one of the world's most popular Linux distributions in recent years, launched its latest version on June 1 following months of intense testing. The new release is titled Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Long Term Support), and has a specific emphasis on the needs of large organisations with both desktop and server versions.
