Apt-get errors

Hiya folks

Sorry about the disappearing act. Apart from turning 27 on Tuesday, I was busy with quite a few things. Brushing up my linux skills with Ubuntu as well as recovering from a knife attack that took place about a couple weeks back, which ended up in my left hand being slashed, tendons being damaged and an operation having to take place in an attempt to repair them. Thankfully I am OK (it could have been worse) but my hand is still in a cast. Hopefully going back to hospital this Saturday will yield better results so that I can start putting my left hand to good use again. Many thanks go to friends who supported me during that time. Much appreciated.

Ubuntu, here I come...

Over the past few days, I have been dabbling in Linux notably Ubuntu .

Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. I must admit, the thought of even thinking of trying Linux again kinda scared me a bit.I had tried Mandrake, Red Hat, Fedora Core and each of them were as disappointing as the other.Trying to do things just was not fast enough for me personally and particularly with Fedora Core (cant remember which test it was exactly), I ended up losing both partition on my hard drive.Hence I gave up on Linux for a good while.About 8 months ago, Linux peeked my interest again and this time I decided to do my research before installing any odd Linux distro.Came across the Ubuntu website, liked what I read and ordered a few CD (i386 and amd64).These arrived about 6 weeks later.

Star Rater using CSS

Looking to create an easy 5 star rating system? Then you best head over to this website:

http://komodomedia.com

Very easy to setup and follow. To be honest, I had been looking for a similar solution for a quite a while as I was working on a media upload website and needed to implement a 5-Star rating system. I could have taken the long and created about 10 different gif files and used PHP to display the corresponding image according to the rating value of an item. Example: Rating 3.5 will show up 3_5_stars.gif and so on and so forth.

Lightbox 2.0

First there was Lightbox, now there is Lightbox 2. Dont quite know how to say it but Lokesh has done a great job with this little javascript gem. Well whats is Lightbox? Put simply, Lightbox JS is a simple, unobtrusive script used to overlay images on the current page. It's a snap to setup and works on all modern browsers. For those of you who have been visiting my portofolio, Lightbox was used to display the images. Since my images were taken from a database, it was relatively easy to setup. But the major drawback with Lightbox was that in order to view the next picture, you had to close the current image and select the next one from your list.
